Hiya, very late comment... came here from philofaxy and just wanted to say a big HELL YES to all your points above - I was born bang on 1970 in Britain, and I still have the "bad old days" fresh in my mind, from the movies & TV I saw growing up.

Girls born after about '75 really don't get it - and that's pretty sad, because the problems haven't gone away, they've just mutated, and the ugly stuff is covered with a coating of media-inspired BS - the whole "size zero" thing being one case in point, since how the f~@< can women achieve and take positions of power, if they're half-starved?!

Ancel Keys demonstrated once and for all back in the 40's that semi-starvation makes people incapable of rational thought, instead driving them into an obsession with food, bodies and minutiae - now that same thing, basic malnutrition, is marketed to young women as a desirable lifestyle, go figure on what that will do to their brains.

Oooh, went off on one there didn't I? :) Apologies - I just really do agree with your point, and I like Wil's blog too, but that "psycho ex-girlfriend" thing was just lame.
